Study says hearing loss linked to a 7% increased risk for dementia

A study reported in “JAMA Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery” found hearing loss was linked to a higher dementia risk, especially among those who did not use a hearing aid. Researchers pursued this topic, in part, due to the relatively new increase in availability of hearing aids, which are now available over the counter, and the existence of only a limited amount of research on how hearing aids may impact dementia.
